Genesis

It is the beginning of a new semester!!! How exciting!
This studio class offers a plethora of opportunities to expand from what I learned in Experimental. Also, since there is not a photography studio class being offered this semester, this will hopefully take its place.

So, I want to focus on Photo. I think that the idea of a constructed image is interested and after going to Chris Saah's talk about the "perfect" image, I think it would be interesting to try and create one. If I did this for one of my projects, I would probably record all of the different steps that I made so that I had a video of my process after I completed the image, so that the viewer could see how I made decisions and went back and forth on the details of the image.

That being said, I think that there is something really disgusting and annoying about striving for perfection when there are so many beautiful and profound mistakes that have been made. I want to perfect my digital photography. I would like to maybe do portraits of people or macro shots of some contradictory subject. When doing portraits, I would talk to my subject the entire time, maybe steering the conversation towards something emotionally evocative in order to capture the response in their facial expression. As for macro shots of something contradictory? I like the interplay of textures and colors and contrast. I like drawing someone's attention to something new and weird and maybe making them stop and notice the light at night or the minute bike marks on a leaf or the skeleton-like veins in one that has been stripped.

I think it would be interesting to play with cliches this semester. Perhaps one project could really focus on pushing boundaries and one could almost be commercial-like in its perfection. Maybe I could make ads! I am looking at an internship with Under Armour this summer, perhaps in marketing. I think it would be fantastic to work with them on ad design. I have found that the composition of their prints are really appealing. I think paired with some research on what kinds of ads are most effective, I could make some really cool images.

What I want to explore. He is amazing.

So many options!
