The traditional portrait is a face, with a gaze. It forces a
viewer to ponder a single face, separate from the other stimuli that normal
serve as distractions. The concept of my final project deals with stories, told
through a visual and a voice.
This project is a progression, from combining a traditional
portrait with an story, to a more visually complex representation of a person.
I plan to show the viewer a person and personality, without focusing singularly
on the face. If printed, the photos will be small. If projected, they will pass
by relatively quickly. A short progression of photos focusing on one person at
a time, and perhaps five total, will start the tale of a person, their story
extending beyond the edges of the image by forcing the viewer to engage with
multiple senses. Their gaze does not have to be direct, nor their voice using
words, to communicate something about the deepest part of themselves.
